My 5 Month old boxer puppy woke up this morning not really

Customer Question

My 5 Month old boxer puppy woke up this morning not really being able to stand on his back legs? He can still stand on them but they seem very unstable and he arches his back. He is not crying or anything but is having a hard time sitting down. Not sure what could have happened in his sleep?

I am sorry to hear you are worried about your Boxer puppy. I am pretty worried by your description of him.
I am a veterinarian and will do my best to help.
How long since he got up and has been like this?
This could be many things: a problem in his back or lower spine, a parasite that affects the hind legs of puppies called Neospora, a tick borne disease. I don't think it is just from something that happened in his sleep, I have never seen that before.
If he were mine, I would be checking for fever ( normal rectal temp is 101 to 102), doing a good physical an neurologic examination and possibly blood tests and xrays.
Like I said, I am worried and if he were mine I would have him at my clinic, trying to find the cause. Let me know how he is doing and what other questions you have.
