I've got a dog who has seizures and is managed with two phenobarbs

Customer Question

I've got a dog who has seizures and is managed with two phenobarbs twice a day. Suddenly, has developed this strange habit of jerking to the right and a burst of 4 or five steps. He cannot relax and the other dogs sense his behavior as being off. Any idea what this may be?

It sounds as if Lewis is experiencing break-through seizures - this time in the form of simple partial seizures which are described as focal or asymmetric sensory or motor activity affecting any part of the body. These were previously called petit mal. Pleas alert Lewis's vet to what you're seeing. A change in his phenobarbital dose or adding another anticonvulsive to his phenobarbital is likely. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
