My female pit is not fixed, she had her first heat cycle

Customer Question

My female pit bull is not fixed, she had her first heat cycle about 2 weeks ago, her vagina was extremely engorged, which I understand is normal, but now that it's gone back to its normal size there are 3 or four sores on it.for lack of a better description, and if I had seen these on a human I would call them some kind of std.. but I don't know if dogs get anything like that. They are blister-like but don't seem to be obviously fluid or puss filled.. any ideas?

Hello. I would try using a topical antibiotic on the sores. You can use Neosporin 1-2 times daily. I would give that a week and see if they resolve. If they do not, then I would get them looked at and have some samples taken. This is to make sure they are not TVT's (transmissible venereal tumors) or papillomas. Those are both uncommon tumors that can form on the vulva of young dogs. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
