Dr Andy, I have a new chihuahua who is about 7 weeks maybe

Customer Question

Dr Andy, I have a new chihuahua who is about 7 weeks maybe 1-2lbs. She ate my older dogs 22.7 mg dosage. I understand she may vomit and have diarrea. Should I be concerned for more severe symptoms based on her size and dosage consumed??

Hello, Can you verify what drug was ingested? Sorry, it doesn't say in question.

Understood.Yes, my greatest concern is for bad gastrointestinal symptoms. I would not expect more severe symptoms, but the GI distress could actually get very bad. My other concern is that there is a risk for seizures or joint problems. Now, the warning about not using this medication in young pets due to growth issues is generally about pets being prescribed the medication and on it for several days, not just a one time overdose. Nonetheless, for the amount ingested and at this age, I would recommend an ER vet visit for some proactive care to protect the digestive tract. Good Luck!Dr. Andy

Hi Andrea,

I'm just following up on our conversation about Miss Daisy. How is everything going?
