Is there any difference between canidryl and previcox innthe

Customer Question

is there any difference between canidryl and previcox innthe way they work as NSAI?
My 6 year old Airedale was taking canidryl by vet and seemed to work almost immediately. The we saw the consultant and he confirmed elbow dysplasia and put her on previcox, to lose a littl eweight, fish oils and 4 shorter walks.
She is still limping badly with previcox it doesnt seem to eork as well as Canadryl. BUT I didnt know if previcox is a longer haul drug as it were and results take longer or if it just doesnt suit her?

Aloha! You're speaking with Dr. Michael Salkin
Both Canidryl (carprofen) and firicoxib (Previcox) selectively inhibit COX-2 - the prostaglandin most associated with inflammation. We would expect these nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to work similarly, then, but that isn't necessarily the case. We often find that one NSAID will work better than another and don't hesitate to switch to that drug if that's the case. Both drugs take effect rapidly - within hours - and so waiting until Previcox "takes effect" isn't indicated. Give Evie's consultant a call and let him know what you're seeing. There shouldn't be a problem having her Canidryl prescribed once again.
