Customer Question

Hi, my 7 year old springer spaniel has arthritis in his front elbows and also a partial tear in the ACL in rear knee. X-ray also shows mild dyplasia in hips. Was told Devils claw was good for this. He has been given acupuncture for several months but too costly for us, Can you help?

I am sorry to hear Riesling has so many problems.
Thank you for requesting me.
So he has problems with his hips, both elbows and one knee. Devils claw has anti inflammatory properties, and may help. I like a product called DGP, Doggone Pain, an herbal preparation that contains this and other herbs that help with inflammation.
Did acupuncture help? You might look into prolotherapy, seeing a veterinarian who does rehab work, cold laser or therapeutic ultrasound.
Other things that can help are injections of compounds similar to what is found in natural joint fluid, like Adequan and HA (Hyaluronic acid, "Legend"), fish oil, anti inflammatory medication ( carprofen, meloxicam, Deramaxx), pain medication (tramadol or gabapentin). Every case is different so you may have to try different things.
