Customer Question

We found some very tiny black bugs on our dog. They look like ticks but they aren't ticks. They look like they were sucking blood from the dog but were easy to take off. They were not hard to remove from our dog. What could these be? They all look about the same size...very tiny and black...

Welcome to Just Answer. Based on your description, I would be very, very suspicious that you're seeing lice on your dog. Young ticks called nymphs can look similar, but they are usually not that bad. Here is a good link with a picture of the lice.

No, these are definitely not nymphs or lice. I looked at the pictures on the link. Thanks for trying. I have kept the critters in a jar and will take them to a vet tomorrow to see what they say. Looks like the bath, frontline and cleaning of bedding have made a difference. Thanks again for trying.....
