How much Xanax should I give my 80 lb, healthy dog for anxiety?

Resolved Question:

How much Xanax should I give my 80 lb, healthy dog for anxiety? He has a bunch of brown dog ticks on him that he will not let us take off.

The dose range is quite wide for Xanax- 0.01 to 0.1 mg per kg 1-2 times daily. In a dog this size (80 lb = 40 kg), I would start with 0.5 mg and go up to 4 mg as the max dose. Start low and see if it helps, basically titrating up to effect.

The other thing you can give to help sedate him would be Benadryl. The dose range there is 1-2 mg per lb every 6-8 hours.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
