I have a 3 yr old mix breed spayed female. she is boxer/pit/hound. For the last 2 days she has not been able to keep anything down including water. I gave her a pepcid ac this morning to try and settle her stomach. She has been eating a lot of grass at which she trows up right after eating. She doesn't seem to be in any pain and is alert and wants to play if i let her. She doesn't drink a lot of water, as a matter of fact very little water, but that has been that way ever since i got her. I'm worried about maybe a possible obstruction.

HiCustomer

Is she an eater-of-objects?

Is she up to date on vaccines?

Does her stomach seem hard to the touch, or soft?

How many days has she been sick?

Is there any possibility she got into something she shouldn't have?

i guess there is always the possibility.

Since she's still basically acting normally, and since she's already spayed (ruling out possibility of pyometra) and isn't an eater-of-objects (ruling out most cases of obstruction)I think we should start out by treating it like a simple case of gastroenteritis.

The gold standard for treatment vomiting in a dog is fasting. Generally vomiting is acute (meaning it comes on quickly) and can be taken care of without much trouble.

If this were my dog, I'd fast her for 24 hours (providing she doesn't have any underlying diseases such as diabetes that require she eat every few hours). No treats, no food, nothing. You can leave a small amount of water available, but don't allow her to drink too much at one time (placing ice cubes in her bowl so that she can't gulp water will help).

After the 24 hours, I'd offer a bland diet of boiled rice and boiled hamburger (3 parts rice to 1 part burger) in VERY small amounts (perhaps 1/4 c every hour or so) for the next 24 hours. Once you start feeding the rice mixture, monitor the dog for recurring vomiting. If the vomiting doesn't start again, you can begin slowly mix in her kibble over the next few days until you're back to just kibble.

If the vomiting persists for more than another day or so, or if your dog becomes lethargic, begins to have diarrhea or shows other 'unusual' signs, you should have her seen by a vet, just to rule out any sort of illness or parasite infection.

I hope this helps!!
