Hi there. Most likely from your description, they are tapeworms, although I would have to see them to be absolutely sure. They are a bit short to be roundworms. Tapeworms are the result of your dog eating a flea, so treatment for both the worms and fleas will be needed. You should see a veterinarian for a definitive diagnosis and safest treatment. Many of the over the counter dewormers are notoriously harsh and ineffective. Good luck!

Hello,

I was asked if I could further assist you. It is true since we cannot do a fecal examination on your Golden I cannot tell you exactly what the parasite is, but I would like to give you a site that has pictures (warning some graphic pictures) that will help identify the parasites you are dealing with. Once identified there are some sites like Fostersmith.com, or 1800petmeds, that sells parasite control medications that do not need a prescription that may aid you in treating your boy. The site to help you identify the parasites is: http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/worms.html If you discover the parasite is a tape worm you will not only have to address the parasite, but also the cause which is the ingestion of a Flea that was carrying the tape worm eggs.
