How do I treat an oozing wound on my dog

Resolved Question:

My dog was bitten by another dog a week ago. I have cleaned (daily) the wound on his back with peroxide and betadine sol'n. It scabbed up, BUT now he is scratching it and it is oozing a clear-pinkish fluid. How can I treat it at home?

Dog's mouths are FULL of bacteria, contrary to what people think. Any time that there is a dog fight, you have to worry about puncture wounds. These types of wounds allow bacteria to enter the dog's bloodstream. It can be pretty dangerous and most dogs need oral antibiotics.

I would definitely want to have it checked out by your vet.

Until then, the only thing you can do at home is wash it well with betadine and then apply some neosporin ointment.
