How long does it actually take for a dogs meal

Customer Question

How long does it actually take for a dog's meal to digest and have a bowel movement?

Some of this depends on the age of the dog and some on the type of food being fed.
In general an adult dog fed the same food at the same time each day will have a bowel movement about the same time.
With pups you figure they will go sometime between 10-20 minutes after eating or drinking or playing hard etc.
Pups don't digest food as well as adults plus they are growing creating more waste materials so they go more often.
When your dog's digestive system is functioning normally, the typical dog food meal takes 7- to 10-hours to pass through the digestive system or a bit longer again depending on the dog's age and the food fed.
A home made meal or a high quality easily digested food might only take 6-9 hours to digest.
Hope this helps you!
