Customer Question

My dog (4lb Yorkie) was attacked by a raccoon last night. I cleaned his wounds (he has had his rabbies vacine) and I am watching him. He's not him self today, I think he is sore and still scared. Is there anything else I should do for him?

He should be examined by a vet as there are possible crush injuries and a good chance of infection even though you did a good job by cleaning out his wounds. Puncture bites tend to get infected. And bite pressure can do more damage inside than just punctures.
Another concern is you handling saliva covered fur and if rabies is widespread in your area you may want to talk to your own doctor about possible exposure.
Usually the vets like to rebooster with the rabies shot after an attack like this too.
Your dog may heal faster if he is put on oral antibiotics.
Hope this helps you!
