can you give a dog human laxatives

i think my dog swallowed a big piece of he's having a hard time pooing. can you give a dog human laxatives, or is that not good for them?

The human laxatives are not safe for dogs.
You can see if a teaspoon of plain petroleum jelly will work. Or you can try some cat laxative such as PetroMalt or Laxatone (used for hairballs in cats).
You can also see if some fiber helps him. A couple of slices of whole grain bread might help or a couple of spoons of plain canned pumpkin or oatmeal or bran flakes cereal. Fiber will bulk up the stool and may help push along the rawhide.
But if you can't get him to pass the stool you should see a vet as he may need surgery if he has a blockage.
