Male dogs usually hit puberty between 6-12 months of age.
AKC will not register pups to males who were less than 7 months old at the time of breeding.
Responsible breeders usually wait to breed until the dog is cleared of health problems common in the breed. You can read about some of the health testing done here
You should have a stud dog agreement all ready to use. Here are some samples
Normally the female is brought to the male so you will have the responsibility of housing the female and keeping her from other dogs. You may want to stipulate flea and tick treatments ahead of time.
As there usually are a lot of males available to choose from to breed it is usually good if your dog has a conformation show title as well as the health testing done.
