Customer: Our dog recently became paraplegic and we now have to cath him 3-4 times daily. I have 2 questions. 1. It has been 4 hours since he has been cathed and we can't get any urine. Is this normal?? and 2. The vet gave us a few catheters, but where do we purchase more?

Thank you,
Noelle

Dear Noelle,

If your dog has not had a lot of water intake within this four hour period, he may just not have very much urine so this could be normal. It also could be that you have not placed the catheter far enough into the bladder.

The only place that I know of to purchase catheters is from your vet or you may possible get some from a medical supply. Your vet will get the proper ones. It would be best to get them from him.

He can also inform you on how to clean them to avoid causing any infection in your dog's uretha.

Hope this helps,

Dr. KM
