This is stomach acid which can be a sign of upset stomach with no food lining. It can be a sign of stomach upset for a number of reasons but if he/she only threw up once most likely he/she is having a little stomach upset which should pass and feeding a bland diet of cooked rice and/or boiled chicken or beef for the next 1-2 days can help to line the stomach and is more digestible to the stomach when it is upset. If your dog continues to throw up it can be a sign of a dietary intolerance, intestional tract disorder, or due to medications which can upset the stomach.Try the bland diet to see if this seems to help after allowing the intestional tract to recover, then start with a couple tablespoons of water to see if this is tolerable, if so the bland diet will be more tolerated and help to line the stomach which can stop the vomiting due to an empty stomach which can cause upset.
