Usually a tie lasts anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes with about 20 minutes being the average. Care should be taken to ensure the male isn't hurt during this process as often the act causes some discomfort to the female & she may attempt to run or otherwise fight the tie. You may want to restrain her so no harm is done to either.
