Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: on the blood test his his liver level was up.when I increased the prednisone it was giving him bad diarrea

You should never stop giving prednisone without a vet's advice. It should be stepped down slowly, decreasing the dose over a period of time until it is completely phased out.

Prednisone is usually helpful with these dogs with inflammatory bowel issues.

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: my dog was only on 1 prednisone pill a day.He was diagnosed for this disease back in 3/05.my vet wanted to do a cat scan of his liver before taking him off all medications. I took him off the medicine for 4 days and the stool has improved.what do you think?please respond

Even if your pet is only on one pill a day, you still need to step it down. Your vet might want you to go to 1/2 a pill for a week and then a pill every other day until he is completely weaned.
