can dogs lose their voice

Customer Question

my 3 year old Jack Russel Terrier has seemed to lose her voice. She still growls but nothing comes out. We live in Tallahassee, FL and are staying in Jensen Beach, FL with my parents for the Thanksgiving holiday. Maybe she is allergic to something? She (the dog) doesn't seem to care.

She may be coming down with an upper respiratory infection if she met any strange dogs along the trip. Kennel cough is one and you can read about that here
She could also have an allergy or a tonsil infection impacting her voice box. She might just have developed a polyp on her vocal chords too.
You can read about tonsillitis here
I do suggest you have the vet check her out when you get home.
Hope this helps you!
