Possum Bites dog

Customer Question

My dog was bitten by a possum, I’m sure I didn’t spell that right, tonight. My brother said that possum’s have a toxin that they transfer to the one bitten that will paralize the dog in a matter of days and kill it. he says there is no antidote. Is this correct? I put a triple antibiotic on the wound.

O'Possums can carry diseases including rabies.  If your dog has not been vaccinated yet, you need to see the vet immediately.  If he killed the possum, you need to call your local animal control facility to come and pick it up and test for rabies.
