Dr. Dr. Scarlett, I meant to say, my 17 year old cat Sadie,
I meant to say, my 17 year old cat Sadie, passed away yesterday and I am devestated. I would like to tell you what happened. Before Christmas she stopped eating her wet food, but would constantly drink water from the tub, which was usual for her. She would eat chopped up beef or tiny pieces of cheese. I took her to the vet a month ago and he said she had a absessed tooth. Gave me an antibiotic to give her every 12 hours and also a shot. This past Monday I called him to she had been eating again but has now stopped all together and when she walked her hind legs sometimes gave out on her. She was constantly crying and wanted me to open her cans of food, but then she would not eat it. I took her down and he did bloodwork and gave me more antibiotic and another shot. He also asked If I wanted to keep her there in the hospital overnight so he would give her IV. I could not afford it. Plus at that age, I wanted her home with me. He said he would call me Wednesday with the blood tests results. I called him and he said the results were not good. Her Urea Nitrogen was 112 and Bun/Creatinine Ratio was 51. He said again about the IV and her staying at the hospital. I asked him what he would do age her age? He said, I would put her to sleep. I went upstairs and found her laying on the floor of my bedroom next to the heating vent. I put her a little closer to the vent to stay warm. The vent only blew warm air, not hot. I then proceeded to get ready to go. I came back upstairs and she had moved herself a little away from the vent and died! He claws were out. I think she was trying to grab the carpet to pull herself and her eyes were open. I am DEVASTATED. Could I have killed her by putting her next to the vent and should I have left her at the Vet for the IV fluids? I am so despondent and feel as if this is all my fault. If I had let her stay in the hospital she would be here with me today. Also, she was 17 years, 9 months and 1 day old. She rarely went outside, but lately wanted to run out the front door when I was bringing things in from the car. Also wanted to go out of my back deck in the snow. That was not like her. Did I contribute to her death? Feeling so Guilty and lost. I live alone, it was just her and me. … read more

My oldest male cat had a seizure this evening. This site was the first place I could think of to go after the seizure had passed. Dr. Lucy was fantastic and she was spot on!

DebbieUSA

I must tell you I found this site by accident and was amazed when I asked a question of the Veteranians online. I wish I could have found it sooner it could have made such a difference in the outcome of my pet's surgery. However, I am passing along the information to my sister-in-law (a cat-rescue person who is also a nurse), and perhaps it will help someone else who may experience the same problem. The doctor who answered my question was amazing, and while it didn't come it time to change the outcome of my situation, it is reassuring to know the caliber of Vets/Doctors that you have at JustAnswer. Thank you for being there.
