Hi. My name is***** Thank you for your question. Can you take a picture of this black material and post it for me to see?

No I cannot. Can you tell without a picture. He had the same thing two years ago and it went away. He had black stuff on his pallet, it also went away.
Cat Vet: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago
the black stuff is in his mouth? Is he eating normally?

It went away.
Cat Vet: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago
When darker material is in the oral cavity, a big suspicion for it is something that is there due to eating / licking it. I would be more worried if there was pain, decreased eating, bad odor, blood, or swelling. I would monitor for these.

It went away. That was two years ago. He does not complain about anything and eat well.
Cat Vet: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago
That is great that he’s not complaining and eating well. If the black stuff comes back, try to get a picture of it. I wouldn’t be overly worried if it hasn’t been seen since that long ago.

The black stuff is now on his bumps
Cat Vet: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago
Bumps that are where? If you try to wipe them, does it come off?
Ask Your Own Cat Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
I am sorry Dr Bruce the black stuff is on his gums. Not his pallet.
Cat Vet: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago
Sorry for my delay. If the dark material is on the gums, it could be from what he’s licking. Some can have specks of dark due to acne.

I will use your service again. I was very pleased with the response and the fact that you have a low cost option so that those of us on fixed income can have questions answered. I will also recommend you to others.

The vet said that the information and my following it will be what made the difference. Thanks again for being so very helpful.

My oldest male cat had a seizure this evening. This site was the first place I could think of to go after the seizure had passed. Dr. Lucy was fantastic and she was spot on!

DebbieUSA

I must tell you I found this site by accident and was amazed when I asked a question of the Veteranians online. I wish I could have found it sooner it could have made such a difference in the outcome of my pet's surgery. However, I am passing along the information to my sister-in-law (a cat-rescue person who is also a nurse), and perhaps it will help someone else who may experience the same problem. The doctor who answered my question was amazing, and while it didn't come it time to change the outcome of my situation, it is reassuring to know the caliber of Vets/Doctors that you have at JustAnswer. Thank you for being there.
