About 2 months my cat decided to stop use his liter box for

Customer Question

About 2 months my cat decided to stop use his liter box for BM's. He still urinates there. He now uses the sofa in the living room for BM's. How do I stop this behavior?
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. What is the cat's name?
Customer: His name is ***** ***** he is a Ragdoll, and is 9 years old.
JA: Is there anything else important you think the veterinarian should know about Skye?
Customer: Ske and I live with my older brother. Skye will not have anything to do with my brother. He follows me around the house, sleeps with me, and sits on my lap. He even leads me to the bathroom every morning. Anytime during the day when I go to the bathroom no matter where he is in the house he will come to the bathroom.

Is the poop normal, hard or loose?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
The poop is normal, firm not hard and does not leave a stain on the sofa.

Thanks so much for your very helpful reply.

Did Skye always poop in the box before he began going on the sofa?

Did anything change in his life just prior to this behavior?

where is box kept?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
He always used the litter box and there were no changes in his live or in his behavior.
Expert:  Terri replied 9 months ago.

Perhaps he does not want to pee and poop in in the same box any longer.Cats often "talk" with their waste so he IS trying to tell you are things to try:

Put a second box next to the first with cat attract litter

Use an enzyme product on the areas that had stool

Put a sheet of tin foil over the sofa spot where he soiled

Whenever he goes in his box give him a treat so he sees "good" behavior is rewarded.

Please let me know how he is doing .
