Hello, Helen and welcome!

My name is ***** ***** I will be glad to help you and your cat today.

I'm sorry you didn't get an earlier answer, but various experts are online at different times and I just logged in and read your question. Your patience is greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry your kitty's recent behavior has you worried.

You have not done anything wrong! Because of his senior age and sudden change in behavior, it would be a good idea to first have him evaluated in person by his vet, to see if there are any underlying medical problems that could be bothering him and contributing to his present actions.

If there have been any changes in your routine or your household recently, this can cause stress and that can lead to the behavior you described. However, there is a condition called CDS (cognitive dysfunction syndrome), which affects older cats and it's like dementia or Alzheimer's in humans. They can become confused or disoriented and forget where they are or where they want to be, and show a marked change in behavior. Here is more information: CLICK

Since it is very cold and rainy now, where you live, of course it is important that he stays inside, so, once he's in, try to keep him in, even though he begs to return outside. I'm assuming he's neutered, so he's not wanting to be outside, roaming for a mate.

I hope you're able to have him seen by the vet as soon as possible, and please let me know how he's doing. Thanks!

Please be so kind as to rate my answer with positive feedback so I receive credit for my assistance. Thank you.
