Cat has an open sore, but noticed a line of liaisons.appearing from wrist half way up leg, these are small and appear to be slightly raised above iabove fur. Cat is 17.Please advise....

I am sorry Slate has this trouble. It is most likely miliary dermatatitis or eosinophic granulma. Both are allergic reactions, usually to a flea bite.

You can apply plain neosporen three times a day. It is safe if he licks and ingests it.
If he is eating well but losing weight, he may be hyperthyroid.
If he has this ailment it can be treated with medication and a special food. It is made by hills and called Y/D. It comes in wet and dry forms:
