My indoor 18 year old short haired male is hungry all the time. He is somewhat satisfied with two cans of Indoor wet food each day. While he'l eat dry, he can't digest it. His elemination habits are normal....twice a day. He vomits every night and does not seem to drink excessively.
He's a big cat and when younger weighed 18 pounds. Now he's 9 pounds but not in any distress. He seems most content except when begging for food.

I am sorry George has this trouble.

Bless you for taking such great care of him that he has reached 18!

You are describing the classic symptoms of hyperthyroid.

The cat eats great but is always hungry and loses weight. That is because the excess thyroid hormone burns up a lot of his calories.

Read about this here:

It can be treated with mediation orally or compounded to rub on the ear.

There is also a cat food that can help.

It is best to take George in for a T4 thyroid test so he can be started on a treatment program

Please let me know how he is doing.

I hope he feels better very soon.

Warmest best wishes,

Thank you for your complete response.
I will work further with him to resolve his problem.

Dear XXXXX Lois,

You are more than welcome. It was my pleasure to help someone as wonderful as you!

Till you resolve this it is a good idea to hold George's dry food. It contributes to the vomiting. Feed him canned only.

Please give George a BIG hug and kiss from me!

Hi Mary Lois,

I'm just following up on our conversation about George. How is everything going?
