What do I do with newborn kittens with the umbilical cords

Resolved Question:

What do I do with newborn kittens with the umbilical cords still attached, the mother died after giving birth

This is Dr.Christian. You can use a piece of thread or string to tie off the umbilical cord about 1/2 an inch from their body, then cut off the excess cord. In a few days the remaining cord will dry up and fall off. If you have more questions please let me know.

Is it important that it is done right away
Expert:  Christian K. replied 8 years ago.
It is best to do it quickly to minimize the chance of infection getting in to the umbilical cord and hence in to the kitten.
