our cat has a red fleshy lump in the eye area near where our tearduct would be

Hi there,

Is it bothering him?

How long is it there?

Is it red?

Is he trying to rub it?

Thanks Terri ~ It has been there for approx. 24 hours, and it doesn't seem to bother him. However, is eye is somewhat weepy, and he seems lathergic. Yes, the lump is red. It almost looks like a piece of wet cat food got stuck into his eye. No he is not trying to rub it, and he allows us to look at it closely without fussing.

Dear friend,

Does it look like this:

You may be seeing the third eyelid which appears in times of pain, stress or illness.

I am so sorry your boy is dealing with this. He may have scratched his cornea or gotten something in his eye. It can also be an abasion or a clogged tear duct.

You an apply a damp teabag for 30 seconds every hour.

If it continues to look angry or he closes his eye, he should be seen. Do not allow him to rub it.

Please let me know how he is doing. I hope he feels better very soon.

Sincerest best wishes,

So this could just be a common occurence? When we saved this little boy he did have and continues to have weepy eyes. The animal shelter said that he would have this for life. The red fleshy is actually on the other side of his eye in regards XXXXX XXXXX picture. It looks like a tear yet red and fleshy. Thanks for your feedback and any other feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Dear friend

Oh you saved him from a shelter!! May God bless you. He likely has herpes:

Add 125 mg of l-lycine to his water every day to prevent outbreaks.

I hope he will be just fine.

Many blessings,
