Birds have very large eye sockets, for their very big eyes. The sinus system is also Huge. Facial trauma can result in broken bones, sinus injuries, chronic inflammation. If money allows it, advise you see an avian specialist, with acess to CT. Skull X-Rays are some help, CT is MUCH better. Skull X-Rays are challenging to interpret.Empirically a short course of antjnflamtory, may help, if not already used. The use of eye ointment/drops may not be helpful, I suspect the trauma has caused deeper damage.AAV.org has an avian veterinarian locator, some of my clients drive 1.5 hours.

Unfortunately we dont have any avian specialists here. What course of antiinfalamtory course would you recommend? What can this be?
Customer reply replied 1 year ago
I mean what kind of injury is this
Bird Specialist: DrRoyC, Veterinarian replied 1 year ago
Meloxicam is a safe & effective NSAID, or inflammatory drug for birds. With out imaging we don't know the extent or type of injuries. Chronic swelling in & around the eye can lead to damage of the optic nerve.Recommend trying the meloxicam for 2-3 weeks.,

What Customers are Saying:

Thank you so much!!! I love this service. It has given me peace of mind and extremely valuable information at an affordable price 24/7 to care for my beloved pets. THANK YOU

LindaCenterreach, NY

I found my experience with you to be very positive. Not only did the vet answer my question thoroughly, he left me with a better knowledge to follow up with my vet.

MarilouEast Taunton, MA

I must tell you I found this site by accident and was amazed when I asked a question of the Veteranians online. I wish I could have found it sooner it could have made such a difference in the outcome of my pet's surgery. However, I am passing along the information to my sister-in-law (a cat-rescue person who is also a nurse), and perhaps it will help someone else who may experience the same problem. The doctor who answered my question was amazing, and while it didn't come it time to change the outcome of my situation, it is reassuring to know the caliber of Vets/Doctors that you have at JustAnswer. Thank you for being there.

Alice H.Jacksonville, Fl.
