I had what the...
I had what the neurosurgeon called a “minor surgery” on March 17, 2020 to decompress the severely pinched nerves from the vertebrae C3-4 (Cervical) on the left side. The surgeon told my husband that I bled more than expected during the surgery so he had to stop for a while. He did not place a drain in the wound. The next morning in the hospital, I had a significant amount of bloody drainage from the top of the wound. The RN state’s, “I wonder why he didn’t put a drain in?”. Both the RN and I reported this to the surgeon, but a drain was not placed. By March 28, 2020, I had a fever of 102.4, which I reported to the surgeon. I told him my wound felt squishy. March 30, 2020 I went to the ER and was admitted for an infected abscess around my spinal cord and bloodstream infection. I was transferred to a regional trauma center in Neenah. On April 1st, I had a second surgery to debride the large abscess, which was even larger than what the CT scan showed. I was put under the care of an Infectious Disease MD. Since then, I have had either IVs or PICC lines in and numerous antibiotics since March 30, including 6 weeks of IV antibiotics 3 times a day through my PICC given by my husband or me at home. I also had.
Lawyer's Assistant: Have you talked to a lawyer about this?
A wound going down to my vertebrae and have had a wound vac, which I still have until the wound heals from the bottom up. After my IV antibiotics end, I will need to take oral antibiotics for 5-12 weeks. All this is to prevent the possibility of me getting osteomyelitis in my spine or infection in the hardware I have from a right knee replacement and a lumbar sacral fusion surgery. No, I have t. I have not spoken to a lawyer. I’m not sure I want to sue or can. But I’m convinced that if he had placed a drain during the initial surgery or after I drained bloody fluid the next morning, this would either not have happened or not been so every.
Lawyer's Assistant: What steps have you taken so far?
None, except this query.
Lawyer's Assistant: Anything else you want the Lawyer to know before I connect you?
It was found the morning after surgery, March 18th, that I had developed a new murmur. The doctors were concerned, too, that vegetation might grow on my heart valves. The antibiotics the ID MD put me on would also cover that issue.
