My daughter is 23 months old. She has had a fever of 101-104 all day. She has been eating, urinating and otherwise acting normal. She has been a little more tired than usual but also has been playing around the house all day like normal. She is asleep now but I took her temp with an ear thermometer and it is reading 105 degrees. Should I wake her and take her to the ER?

Thank you for waiting.
I am very sorry for her symptoms.
Most healthy children can tolerate 102-103 degrees of fever.
Sometimes we can wait with higher temperature also, if the child does not have any other symptom & looks healthy.
However if the temperature does not come down readily, she needs to be seen without delay.
You have given motrin.
It would have effect in 1/2 to 1 hour.
Please check her temperature again.
If the temperature is still high, I would advise to take her to ER.
A gap of 2-4 hours should be there between ibuprofen & acetaminophen.
Ibuprofen can be repeated 3 -4 times, it can be given 6-8 hourly.
Acetaminophen can be given 4-6 hourly but not to exceed 5 doses.
You can also give lukewarm bath or sponging.
Please give plenty of fluid to keep good hydration.
I hope this information will be helpful.
If you have any query, please feel free to ask.
If you are happy with my answer please click on the Excellent/Good rating.
Wish her healthy life.
Regards.

Hello again and thank you. Since my original post the fever has gone down to 102. Should I still bring her in!?
Pediatrician: Dr. Su S., Pediatrician replied 11 months ago

As the temperature is 102 now, you can wait.
