I have a 6 year old with Down Syndrome and Hirschspring's

Customer Question

I have a 6 year old with Down Syndrome and Hirschspring's Disease. He has been sick since 10/24/16. Every other day he has vomiting and diarrhea accompanied by a low grade fever. He has normal urine output and is eating, however he has a reduced appetite. At times he seems run down and lethargic, but for the most part he is his active self. There is no blood in his stool or vomit. He doesn't act like he is in extreme pain when he has diarrhea but he does cry out prior to vomiting. He has been to his doctor and they ran blood work, all of which came back normal. We also tested his stool for parasites, bacteria and cdiff all of which came back negative. I have an appointment scheduled with a food intolerance center to have him tested for food allergies on 11/30, but am looking for any other cause that could be out there. His illness is not accompanied by any sort of cold related symptoms, more stomach bug type symptoms that have gone on too long. I know there is a root cause somewhere and he isn't just having a recurring gastro virus. Any ideas? He has an 11mo old brother and the two are very close. The 11mo old, nor myself or my husband have yet to be sick or have any related symptoms, which leads me to believe something else is going on.

Hi, Sorry about this illness. Please give extra electrolyte containing drinks, avoid wheat and pulses, meat in diet and give more rice, banana etc. You may also empirically give antibacterial drug course like walamycin, with maalox (unlikely due to a virus) pending the food intolerance tests.

Good luck.
