My daughter (4yrs old) has a hard lump on her rib cage

Customer Question

hello. my daughter (4yrs old) has a hard lump on her rib cage (right side of sternum, between nipple and middle of the chest). We are having it checked tomorrow by pediatrician. She recently had ultrasound of eye and belly because of cyst over eyebrown and chronic complaint of stomach pain. Turns out eye is uncomplicated dermoid cyst that will need to be removed. In the belly ultrasound there were enlarged lymphnodes. Doctor said probably result of infection her body was fighting. I'm wondering how you can tell from an ultrasound that the enlarged lymphnodes are not a red flag for something else going on in the body. I'm also worried that this hard bony lump on chest is connected? Sorry for long question:(
JA: Did you have a recent injury to the eye? How is your vision?
Customer: no recent injury to eye. Lump diagnosed as benign dermoid cyst. Asking about what hard bony lump on ribs could be and if it could be connected to lymph nodes that showed up on belly ultrasound.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: often complains of growing pains in legs and so painful requires tempra.

Thank you for your question.

I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.

I am sorry for her symptoms.

The lump on the chest can due to a few probabilities.

Hard lump can be fibroma, osteoma.

Prominent joint of rib with cartilage can appear as lump in this area.

Dermoid cyst, enlarged lymph node, neurofibroma can be possible here.

But they are firm in nature.

They are all benign condition.

This is unlikely to be related with enlarged lymph nodes in the abdomen.

Tomorrow doctor will examine her physically and confirm the nature of the lump.

I hope this information will be helpful.
