Customer Question

2.5 year old daughter gets fevered alot and the last few times has complained that her knees or feet hurt the first day of the fever.... what could this mean. The last 3 times ( in 7 weeks) she has had no other symptoms other than fever, shakes, and sore feet/knees.
it goes away with ibuprofen and in about 3 or 4 days.

Thank you for your question.
I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.
I am sorry for her symptoms.

Was there any swelling of knees or joints?

Did she have any test?

Did she have any other symptom?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
there was no swelling and she only complains about it at the onset. the last 2 times she has had tests for Strep, ears checked and urine sample... all negative. no other symptoms. had blood work 2 weeks ago and the only thing that came back was she is low in iron. Drs is closed all week and we are worried. she has been sick 13 times in the past year (4 times without syptoms and the rest with (cough, ear infection or strep) Is this excessive? it seems like it is.
Expert:  Dr. Su S. replied 1 year ago.

Thank you for the input.
This can be due to viral infection.
Different viruses can cause it.
Viral infections can cause muscle, joint pain.
As there was no swelling of joints & strep, blood counts are normal, rheumatic fever, arthritis or other problems should not be there.
I would advise not to worry.
You can give ibuprofen or acetaminophen till you can see her doctor.
Please keep her at rest & give adequate fluid.
I hope this information will be helpful.

Thank you.. Are there any more tests that we should ask for when we see our Dr? do you think that the frequency of her fevers/sicknesses is alarming?
Expert:  Dr. Su S. replied 1 year ago.

I do not think that she would need other tests.
Viral infections are common in children.
You may discuss with her doctor to see the conditions of her tonsil or adenoids.

ok thanks! this makes me feel a little more reassured that it is more common than I thought.
