My 5 year old son (has asthma) is taking children's clariton

Customer Question

my 5 year old son (has asthma) is taking children's clariton for a runny nose (last dose was this morning 7AM). I now noticed a wheezing in his chest. The last time this happened our pediatrician gave prednisolone liquid for a few days plus nebulizer (albuterol). It is late and we can't get to the doctor until the morning, but I would like to give him either his flovent puff or prednisolone liquid to get him through the night (take him to doctor tomorrow). Does clariton interact with either of those two steroids?

Thank you for your question.

I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.

There is no interaction between Claritin with prednisolone and albuterol.

Both can be used.

You can give albuterol puff first.

Prednisolone can be used but you can wait till morning to be checked by doctor whether he will need it.

I hope this information will be helpful.
