Customer Question

Hi there, my son is 7 months old. Recently he has had some fevers on and off. More importantly he has had a cough for 4 weeks now. Recently it has been getting severe.. and worse at night. Kind of like barking. The first doctor visit they gave us Sabutamol suphate inhalation aersol. This did nothing at all. The second visit to a different doctor, she said it was crope, however she prescribes clarithromycin. However i did some further reading and crope is a viral infection not bacterial. I am wondering why she gave us this.

Thank you for your question.
I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.

You are right.

Croup is usually a viral infection.

Sometimes, other causes like an allergy, irritant, reflux can cause it.

I think doctor suspected an associated bacterial infection.

Bacterial infection can set in later.

You can continue it.

Please keep a cool vaporizer on at night.

Keep him well hydrated.

I hope this information will be helpful.
