My 9 yo daughter has great trouble sleeping. She complains

Customer Question

My 9 yo daughter has great trouble sleeping. She complains that shutting her eyes for more than 30 seconds hurts and she feels she has to open them. When she was a baby and until about age 3 I noticed that when she slept her eyelids did not shut all the way. You could see a sliver of white of her eyes when she slept so her eyelids shut about 90% of the way. Now they shut but again she says it hurts to shut them and so she doesn't fall asleep tip she is absolutely exhausted. Thaoights? Can eyelids be too tight?

Thank you for your question.

I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.

Did you consult doctor?

Was any eye examination done?

I have not contacted or seen a doctor yet.

Does she have any other symptom or illness?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. The only symptom is difficulty sleeping and that is why I am wondering if the fact that she says it is uncomfortable to keep her eyes closed, is part of the problem. I will tell het to lie down and close her eyes and she feels she needs to open them after a a short time. She typically just reads for about 1.5 to 2 hours until she falls asleep reading.

Thank you for the input.
There are many people who sleeps without fully closing the eye.

Her problem can be elsewhere.

There can be eye strain causing the problem.

There can be irritation of eye or inflammation.

I would advise to get her examined by an ophthalmologist.

Her vision, conjunctiva, cornea or uveal tract need to be examined.
I hope this information will be helpful.
