My daughter is 7. Last Monday evening a she wound her guitar

Customer Question

Hi. My daughter is 7. Last Monday evening a she wound her guitar too tight and the steel string snapped, piercing her right hand in the joint knuckle that connects the middle finger to her hand approx 1.5 cm. The doctor removed the wire and prescribed antibiotics. about 3 days later she said she felt the pain moving up her arm to her elbow, then her shoulder, the following day around to her neck, until all the way down to her left hand. It has now been 7 days and her fingers on her right hand are numb and stiff, as well as the pain going from her right hand all the way around to her left hand.
What can be causing the right hand finger numbness/stiffness and pain?

This is Dr. David
she could have damaged a nerve in her hand like the median nerve which could be causing referred pain up her elbow and arm
she might need to see a neurologist and make sure her hand is healing properly
she might need an MRI scan of the hand as well
it doesn't sound like she has seen a pediatric neurologist yet.
