My 5 year old has a bad cold and fever of 103. Fever since Sunday night and cough with mucus and congestion. He is breathing really fast saying he can't breath. Do I go to emergency or wait for fever to dissipate first?

Thank you for your question.
I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.
Though fever can increase the rate of breathing, I would advise to take him to ER.
With history of cough & congestion, there can be chest infection or pneumonia.
He needs to have tests like blood count, blood gases, chest x ray, throat swab etc.
Please keep the room humidified.
He may need nebuliser, oxygen.
I hope this information will be helpful.
