Customer Question

Hi, my son is 16 and has a 101.6 fever, has had chills, has a headache and it hurts him to look at light. His neck is not sore and he does not have stomach issues or sore throat, stuffy nose etc. Should I let his fever fight his symptoms or give him Teraflu to help with his fever and his headache?

Thank you for your question.
I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.
As he does not have sore throat or cold symptoms, you can give Motrin or Tylenol.
He does not have rigid or sore neck, it is unlikely to be meningitis.
Sometimes in headache there can be intolerance to light.
But if it persists, you should take him to doctor for an examination.
Rest, more fluid to be continued.
In viral fever adequate rest, proper hydration are important.
I hope this information will be helpful.
