Can Benadryl cause diaherra? My son has a cold and a stuffy

This answer was rated:

Can Benadryl cause diaherra? My son has a cold and a stuffy nose, so I gave him a small children's dose. It helped his nose a lot, but now he developed diahrrea I am not sure if this is just from the cold or the medicine. He does not have a fever, eating a bit less, but nothing outstanding drinking milk and water fine.

Thank you for your question.

I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.

When did the diarrhea start?

How many doses of benadryl did you give?

When did all the symptoms develop?

How old is he?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Diarrhea started yesterday (tuesday 10-1), he has benadryl Friday, Sat, Sun. 1 dose a day ( I usually give half of the suggested dose)

His runny nose and cough started on thursday 9/26

Thank you for all the input.
The symptoms are likely due to a viral infection.
Fever may not be present always.
It does not sound like a side effect of Benadryl.
Viral infection usually runs its course.
Please give oral rehydration fluid like pedialyte in addition to the measures you have taken.
Please watch his urine output.
In case of dehydration, it can diminish.
