There are some theoretical beliefs that bacterial infections (including strep) can result in anxiety-related disorders in children. The theory is referred to as 'PANDAS', pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorder associated with streptococcal infections​. You will want to work with his anxiety in the same manner as you would if he were always an anxious child or engaged in the OCD behaviors; consistency and exposure to the obsessions/compulsions to slowly overcome them. Reinforcing positive behaviors and strengths can also be an excellent way to maintain self-esteem, which can be negatively impacted by anxiety.

Sorry to hear about how your recent events. Given the involvement of the parents, you may want to attempt to clarify the situation with them. That way they have a better understanding of what occurred, as well as the ability to explain to their children what happened more appropriately. The reason they blocked your son may have been a result of the comments related to hating his life; that may have resulted in red flags to the parents. Having an open discussion may allow them to see the situation differently, as well as have an understanding for what your son meant (reacting in the moment and frustration). There is more that can be gained from having a conversation with the parents in comparison to what can be lost. You also do not want your son to be ostracized from the larger peer group, which could occur if the 2 children or parents discuss this out of context with other children/parents. So I would encourage you to have a conversation with them, even though it can be difficult and uncomfortable.

I am also glad to hear you have set an up an appointment with the counselor. That can help him deal with the anxiety and OCD symptoms, as well as emotion regulation for improved management of situations that resulted in this scenario.

It could be helpful to talk with the school counselor as they are likely accustomed to dealing with child/parent difficulties. They may have some strategis or ways to help you and the other parents communicate openly about the issue to address things effectively.

That is good to hear and glad to know the school is working with you. I would continue to use the as a support as they are very experienced with these types of situations. Hopefully this issue can be resolved and he is able to move forward with no lingering issues.
