Hi and welcome. I'm a Licensed Master Social Worker with 20+ years experience working with individuals and families. I am also a mom of twins.

Children develop at different paces. Is your child a boy or girl? Sometimes we see that boys begin speaking a bit later. Also, it is possible that your child may not feel the need to speak that much if others speak for them. Do you work with the child and use words and ask him to repeat? Is he connected and affectionate with those around him/her?

How many words are they speaking? I might also suggest that if you are very concerned then a visit to the pediatrician would be the first step to see where the child falls on the developmental scale. If your pediatrician feels that the child could benefit from some speech therapy then that may also be helpful in giving a little nudge to get things rolling.

Let me know some of your thoughts and we can go from there.
