I have an 8 year old boy who is growing out of control, he has terrible anger outbursts with real shaking rage, he shouts a lot and will not do as he is asked, saying things like 'N O spells no', will not take any discipline and seems totally unphased by any discipline or treat taking away that we can give him. I am tearing my hair out and need some help please
Hello and Thank You for consulting Just Answer. I am sorry to hear about the problems with your son. Does he behave the same way at school and at home? If he has not been formally evaluated by a professional like his pediatrician first, then that is your first step. He may then be referred to a psychologist to learn intervention and coping strategies. He may have ODD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder. I will send you further info.
Here are the symptoms:

Clearly disruptive to the family and home or school environment
Hostility directed toward authority figures

Temper tantrums
Argumentativeness with adults
Refusal to comply with adult requests or rules
Deliberate annoyance of other people
Blaming others for mistakes or misbehavior
Acting touchy and easily annoyed
Anger and resentment
Spiteful or vindictive behavior
Aggressiveness toward peers
Difficulty maintaining friendships

If your son fits many of these characteristics, please have him evaluated. His behavior may be beyond your control and you need additional assistance.

Thank you.
