VerifiedYou should have a heart to heart discussion with your new husband. If he is not their biological father and in fact the "other dad" in their lives, he must do all that he can to establish a positive, warm, loving, caring, and supportive relationship. Granted that children need to be disciplined and this is an issue that you must come to an agreement on. Hitting children only teaches them that sort of behavior is acceptable when an individual is angry and then your children may start imitating that same type of behavior. When you discipline your children, the main objective is to teach them the correct behavior. Talk to your husband and see if there is an alternative method that he should employ. Maybe smacking was the way your husband was disciplined and that is why he does it.
Ultimately, you have to decide what to do and the decision must be one that you can live with. Decide with your mind, not with your heart. You may love this man, but he is not providing a safe and emotionally healthy environment for your children.
