Do you know a good way to get a 10-year-old girl to put away

Resolved Question:

Do you know a good way to get a 10-year-old girl to put away her things when she's done playing/drawing/reading, or putting back the cereal and milk after breakfast, etc? Even when asked, she says "In a minute" and then 10 min later, when asked again, claims she forgot. I don't know if it's a power play, passive aggression or just bad habits, or something else.

Is her behavior at school and at home the same?

Good question and I'm not sure of the answer (this is my girlfriend's daughter). I haven't heard of any issues so let's assume that she is cleaning/picking up after herself at school.

Parents must always make sure that they keep control of any situation involving their children. Never allow the children to feel like they have the upper hand. Some suggestions that I can provide to assist your friend's daughter are to make sure that she understand where things should be placed after using them, deny certain privileges if she does not comply with requests, or create a behavior chart to focus on positive behavior.
