I have a cover sheet for a group of handouts and am using the line..

will always take root in children's/childrens' hearts and souls.

The rule is when you make a word plural by adding an "s", the apostrophe goes after the "s" such as in students' papers. (papers of the students) However, the word children is already plural. Therefore, it would be children's papers. (papers of the children)
