Hello and welcome to Just Answer!

A lot depends on the teenager and how responsible they are. Let's face it kid's can be very deceptive. We see only what we want to see sometimes and don't take into account peer pressure that can talk out beloved children into doing things they would not normally do.

My thought would be at age 16 they should be old enough to stay at home by themselves for a night. But I would also have a close neighbor or family member checking in ever so often, not because you don't trust them, but because you can't trust the world in general period.

There are people who are out there that want to hurt others, and too not be sure your child knows all the rules and is totally safe that no one can get to them would be devastating to you if something did happen.

Here is a web site that can explain some problems other adults found to happen!
