With advancing arthritis do you start to get pain also with laying down? Initially grandpa has pain when getting up until starting to move now the pain is when standing too/laying down
He had xray showed his joints are very bad
He is 82 and will not replace due to dangers of surgery at old age

The answer is that something else is probably going on unless the arthritis is VERY severe

has he been checked for inflammatory arthritis like gout or rheumatoid?

It could be just osteoarthritis then

normal arthritis that has advanced to pain with laying too
